The NBA’s Game 5 victory in overtime over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday was the greatest game in league history.
But there are a few things that might not be true.
More: ‘Greater than LeBron James’ is a stretch.
The NBA announced Thursday that it had to remove a few more words from the original postgame statement.
That means that the statement is not accurate, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the game wasn’t the greatest in NBA basketball history.
There were some interesting notes in the postgame remarks, but it was clear that many things about the game did not match up.
The Nets, who were down 20 points in the fourth quarter, trailed by as much as 28.
In order to get their offense going, the Nets needed to score.
The team had a turnover problem early on, but the Nets shot 58 percent in the first half and led by as many as 34 in the third quarter.
Brooklyn’s defense was good in the second half, holding the Nets to just 39.8 percent shooting in the period, and the Nets led by at least 15 points the rest of the way.
The Knicks shot 59 percent in that span.
The Nets won that game on the back of some excellent shooting by their star player, Paul Pierce, and an aggressive defensive effort.
The Hawks shot 48.8.
But even that was not enough to get them back into the game, and they lost 116-115 in overtime.
Brook Lopez scored 19 points in his second game back from injury.
He missed the first two games of the season with a sore left knee.
His status for Game 6 is uncertain.
Brent Barry scored 19 for the Knicks.
He was limited to 10 minutes, but he played 25 minutes in the Nets’ 107-94 victory over the Lakers on Friday night.
Brook’s offense is so efficient, and so consistent, that the Nets can run all over the place.
They don’t have to run many sets, or do many things to get a win.
But they have to create shots, which means they can’t get stops.
The Nets are not a good defensive team.
They had a minus-24 differential in that game, which was the second-worst mark in the NBA.
But the Nets also had a plus-12 differential, which ranked ninth.
They allowed the Lakers to shoot 57.3 percent from the field and to average 17.2 points per game.
They are one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Brooklyn is a very good defensive player, too.
They have six players who have played at least 200 minutes this season.
They rank third in the League in blocked shots.
The Lakers also had some problems, particularly with their second unit.
They were a minus for the night, and their plus-10 differential was tied for the worst in the entire NBA.
The Lakers also allowed 37.5 percent shooting from the floor, which tied for second-best in the Conference.
The Clippers allowed a combined 55.8 shooting, which led the NBA, though they were better on the offensive end.
Brook has a good bench, too, as well.
They ranked fourth in the Division in rebounds, fourth in assists and sixth in blocks.
The bench is the backbone of the Knicks offense, but its not nearly as strong as it was for the Nets.
The offense could not get going without their bench, which had just four players who scored 20 or more points.
The Knicks, who are coming off a season in which they finished 30th in points allowed, are a lot better defensively now than they were the season before.
They averaged 109.9 points per 100 possessions, which is better than the 108.4 that they allowed.
They shot 49.6 percent in those games.
The offense could have been better on Friday.
The game was close enough for Brooklyn to get into the fourth, and that could have given them a chance to score and get a quick stop on Brooklyn.
The Hornets led by 14 in the final period and the game was tied at 104.
But Brook made a big play that helped put the Nets ahead by eight.
Brook is the best player on this team.
He’s the best on the team, and he’s the player who can help this team win games.
He will have the Knicks in the playoff hunt for some time.
